About Blower Cleaning

A blower wheel is a squirrel cage of narrow curved blades. Dust does not sit on those blades — it packs into the concave side of each one, and once every blade is loaded the wheel has effectively changed shape. It stops moving the volume of air it was engineered for, and because the loading is rarely even, it also goes out of balance and starts to vibrate.

Cleaning it properly means pulling the wheel where the cabinet allows, cleaning each blade pocket, cleaning the housing and motor exterior, and reinstalling with correct set-screw torque and alignment. Done right, homeowners commonly see airflow improvements on the order of 20–30% on a heavily fouled wheel.

This is the service to book when every register in the house feels weak, when the air handler has become noticeably noisier, or when duct cleaning alone did not deliver the airflow you expected. At $99 per unit it typically pays for itself in reduced run time.

How the appointment works

  1. 1
    Inspection & walkthrough

We arrive in the 9am–6pm window, protect your floors and furnishings, then inspect the blower wheel, housing, and motor area with an HD camera and show you what we find before any work starts.

  2. 2
    Containment & setup

Negative pressure is established with a truck-mounted or portable HEPA vacuum so debris travels out of the building, not into your rooms.

  3. 3
    Agitation & extraction

Rotary brushes, air whips, and compressed-air tools break loose the bonded dust and buildup while the vacuum pulls everything out under continuous suction.

  4. 4
    Verification & report

We re-inspect on camera, take after photos, walk you through the results, and only then do you pay the technician at your doorstep.

Common questions

What is a blower dust cake?+

A hardened layer of dust bonded to each fan blade. It changes the blade profile so the wheel moves far less air at the same speed.

How much does blower cleaning cost?+

$99 per unit, and it is often bundled with coil or air handler cleaning at a lower combined price.

Will it make the system quieter?+

Usually yes. An unevenly loaded blower wheel vibrates, and removing the buildup often removes the hum or rattle with it.
